Milton Bradley. Parker Brothers. Monopoly. Risk. Guess Who. When you hear the phrase “board game,” these names are likely to pop up, along with a mental image of passing Go and collecting $200 over and over again. However, we are in an exciting renaissance of board game design that began in the 1990s. Join us as we explore the history of modern board gaming, tracing the heritage of the classics, while seeing how games have evolved into completely new modes of play. This lecture is not meant to be all encompassing, but instead offers a launching point for discovering even more games in this growing landscape of fun. From lighthearted fun to deep strategy, highly thematic to distinctly abstract, games today offer all kinds of experiences and you are sure to find something that fits your interests.
